troubleshoot Cooling & Leak Diagnostics
Why is my cooler not cooling? →
A cooler that runs but will not hold temperature almost always has a restricted condenser, a failed condenser or evaporator fan, or an iced evaporator coil from a defrost fault. On walk-ins, a dirty condenser is the single most common cause and the cheapest to fix. If the unit is not running at all, suspect the thermostat, the digital controller, or the high-pressure safety cut-out rather than the compressor itself.
Why is water leaking from my cooler? →
Water on the floor of a cooler is usually condensate that is not reaching the drain: a blocked or frozen drain line, a cracked drain pan, or a condensate pump that has failed. The second cause is warm humid air entering past a worn door gasket or a sagging door, which creates far more condensate than the drain was sized for. Refrigerant leaks produce oil residue, not water.
payments Repair Costs & Service Life
How much does it cost to repair a cooler? →
Walk-in cooler repairs run $250 to $1,800 in Greater Boston. A condenser cleaning and recalibration sits at $250 to $450, fan motors at $320 to $650, door gaskets at $280 to $700 depending on size, and digital controllers at $400 to $800. Sealed system and compressor work reaches $1,200 to $4,000. Wine cooler repairs are lower at $200 to $700, with thermoelectric models at the bottom of that range.
How long should a cooler last? →
A commercial walk-in cooler lasts fifteen to twenty-five years, with the insulated panels outlasting the refrigeration equipment by a wide margin. The condensing unit is the limiting component at ten to fifteen years, and it is routinely replaced once or twice in the life of the box. Compressor-based wine coolers last eight to fifteen years; thermoelectric units are shorter at five to ten.
construction Walk-In Panels & Sealing
What type of sealant is best for a walk-in cooler? →
NSF-listed, food-safe, low-temperature silicone or polyurethane sealant is correct for walk-in cooler panel joints and floor seams. It must stay flexible below freezing, resist mould, and be approved for food-contact environments. Do not use standard construction caulk or expanding spray foam: both fail at cooler temperatures, trap moisture inside the panel, and can void an NSF inspection.
