A washing machine repair in Greater Boston should cost $180 to $450 including parts and labor. The low end covers the most common faults: a drain pump, a water inlet valve, a lid switch, or a drive belt, all at $180 to $350. The middle band is door lock assemblies and shock absorbers at $200 to $400. Above that, control and inverter boards run $350 to $650, where the part itself is most of the cost, and direct-drive motors $400 to $700. The outlier is the outer tub and bearing assembly at $600 to $1,100, which on most mainstream machines is the point where replacement wins outright.
Insist on flat-rate pricing quoted before any work begins. A quote you approve in advance means an awkward part that takes an extra hour costs you nothing more.
How Much Is a Call Out Fee for a Washing Machine?
A call-out or service call fee for a washing machine runs $75 to $150 in Greater Boston. The number that matters more is whether it is credited toward the repair:
| Provider type | Call-out fee | Credited to repair? |
|---|---|---|
| Independent local shop | $75 – $125 | Usually yes, in full |
| Factory-authorized, premium brands | $125 – $195 | Sometimes, often partially |
| National dispatch network | $0 – $99 advertised | Recovered through parts markup |
| Home warranty contractor | $75 – $150 deductible | Not applicable; per-claim fee |
| Still under manufacturer warranty | $0 | Covered by the manufacturer |
| Coin-op or multi-family building | $125 – $195 | Varies by service contract |
Our fee is a flat $95 with no separate travel charge, credited in full when you approve the repair. So on a completed job the diagnosis costs nothing. If your machine is still inside the manufacturer warranty, call the manufacturer first rather than paying anyone.

What Pushes a Washer Quote Higher
- The part is a board. Control and inverter boards are mostly part cost, and on Samsung and LG direct-drive platforms they are OEM-only. We handle those through Samsung and LG repair.
- The machine is stacked or in a closet. Boston laundry installations are often tight. Unstacking a pair to reach the back of the washer is real labor.
- It is a European platform. Bosch, Miele, and Asko parts carry a premium and some need proprietary diagnostics. See Bosch and Miele service.
- The tub has to come out. Bearings, tub seals, and some drain faults require stripping the machine, which is several hours.
- The part is discontinued. Sourcing an obsolete board through a broker costs more than ordering a current one.
Questions to Ask Before You Book
Four questions prevent nearly every billing surprise:
- Is this flat rate for the complete repair, or hourly?
- Is there a call-out fee, and is it credited if I approve the work?
- Does the quote include the part, and at what price?
- What warranty covers the parts and the labor, in writing?
